Hunt decided not to run again.

Republicans nominated Dr. Jim Fulghum (moving up from House) as successor.

Fulghum then became seriously ill, and has withdrawn.

Republicans will choose his replacement soon.

Incumbent Neal Hunt pushed back a challenge from Sig Hutchinson in 2012 by a healthy 11 points; Hunt and allies spent at least half a million; no challenger has emerged in this district as of yet. This seat could become competitive with the right candidate (or if Hunt retires).

Here's a quick take on what Jensen thinks the polling shows:

Senate District 15, Neal Hunt, Raleigh: McCrory won this district by 19 points but his unfavorable rating is now 53 percent in this district. Hunt is still up slightly, but within the margin of error.

Highly vulnerable - probably bluest district held by GOP Senator, should be prime pickup target
